It was a mixed response from Northwoods voters on whether approve tax levy increases to help fund schools.
Voters within the School District of Phelps overwhelming passed its referendum, according to unofficial results Tuesday night. It’s a continuation of the operational funding that was set to expire this year. Voters approved $1.2 million a year for the next six years.
Wausau School District voters passed one of two funding referendums. Voters approved a $4 million recurring referendum to cover operation costs. They did not approve a $149 million referendum for capital projects.
The School District of Tomahawk failed to pass its operational referendum of $3.3 million a year for four years. It failed by 34 votes. In the fall, it failed to pass by 51 votes.
The School District of Elcho’s referendum also failed to pass its operational referendum in Tuesday’s election. The referendum called for $1 million a year for the next four years. It failed by 30 votes. Elcho had also tried and failed to pass the same referendum last fall.
The School District of Wabeno is asking voters to approve $2.5 million each year for the next four years. As of 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night results are still being calculated.
