Realtors: Market Finds Fewer Homes To Buy, Prices Up

Staff Sgt. Teresa J. Cleveland

In parts of Wisconsin, housing prices are sharply rising due to more people looking than are selling. In the Northwoods, a spokesperson says that trend is also in place, but there's more properties available. The Wisconsin Realtors Association puts out a monthly report on housing sales and prices. In August, statewide, housing sales increased 3.3 percent with the median price up 5 percent to $189, 000. Both of those figures are based on August 2017 sales and prices. Economist David Clark works with state realtors. While other parts of the state are finding tight inventories, it's not as acute in the northern counties... "....The northern region has a bit more inventory. They have about 8.8 months of inventory, less than they had this time last year. That enabled the sales in the north to increase and increase substantially, about 24,8 percent, that's one month. It's a month that typically, statewide we do quite a bit of volume. We do about 10 percent of our volume just in the month of August...." Clark says there appears to be a bit of a move by Millenials to start looking at homes. National reports found that age group less inclined to buy homes, but Clark says there was an slight upward tick with that age group getting into homes.
