Relief Efforts Underway For People Without Housing From Ironwood Fire

A relief effort is underway in the Ironwood area to aid people who lost their residences during the downtown blazes February 21. The fires destroyed two buildings.

Three fatalities happened in the fire. Ironwood Public Safety Department says 57-year-old Mark Arnold Verrete, 51-year old Patrick James Somerville, and 27 year old Levi Dean Watkins,all of Ironwood, were fatally injured in the fire.

A GoFundMe page has been established at downtown Ironwood fire victim's fund. Donations can also be dropped off Cold Iron Brewing (Ironwood)-Contrast Coffee Iron River, Contrast Coffee Marquette any Wells Fargo Bank, Ironwood Area Chamber of Commerce. The Red Cross will accept Care Kits that include personal supplies like soap and toothbrushes.Cold Iron Brewing is accepting care kits this weekend--2/24-2/25)

RED CROSS CARE KIT UPDATE:  The Red Cross is accepting supplies to produce Care Kits (item list below). Cold Iron Brewing has  agreed to host the  donation center . Organizers say the best way  to help support the current need is through monetary donation. However, if you would still like to drop off Care Kit supplies to our donation center in Cold Iron Brewing to aid future Red Cross needs, we will be available Saturday: 7AM - 7PM Sunday: 8AM - 5PM (2/24-2/25,2018)

Items the Red Cross can accept for Care Kits include: - Comb/hairbrush - Deodorant - Washcloth - Soap/shampoo/conditioner - Toothbrush/toothpaste/mouthwash - Hand sanitizer - Razor and shaving cream - Tampons - Small toys/games - Coloring books - Stuffed animals - Large zip lock bags

Organizers ask that the public  limit donations of physical goods to the above list.
