Rhinelander Dome Project Moving Forward

School District of Rhinelander

Members of the Rhinelander School Board and the public received an update this week on the new athletic dome.

The dome can fit a full-size football or soccer field, or two softball games at the same time. Superintendent Kelli Jacobi says they saw drawings with changes that had been proposed along the line....

"...We discussed entrances, ticket booths. Access to the stadium. Access to the dome. The connecting vestibule that will connect the dome to the current concession-bathroom building. Then we looked at the building that will store all the equipment needed by sports teams...."

She says the ad hoc committee made no decisions at the meeting. Jacobi says they're 'pretty far' along in the process. She says a meeting to review the final plans is set for early January before the project goes to bid.

In 2018, local physician Lee Swank pledged $500,000 toward the Dome. The Hodag Schools Foundation added another $700,000.

The school's allocation allowed the district to spend up to $6.9 million.
