Rhinelander's Draft ATV-UTV Ordinance Online For Review

Wisconsin DNR

A draft of a plan for ATV's-UTV's to operate in Rhinelander is out an public feedback is being asked by the City.

City Administrator Daniel Guild says the proposal follows a workshop held last fall when there was a public input session. He says the proposed ordinance is not finalized, but it is at the point where more feedback is sought.

The draft proposal would open all streets to ATVs/UTVs except public properties, City-owned parks except for designated parking areas where motorized vehicles normally park. The route does not include private roads or driveways nor any private property in the City. The City would retain the right to close any street to ATV/UTV operation for special events or street construction/repair without notice. All state laws regarding the vehicles would be in place including licensing and terms of operation.

The proposed ordinance follows ordinances passed in other area communities.

Guild says besides having the ordinance for review on the City of Rhinelander Facebook page, he's partnered with a Middleton-based firm Polco to do an online survey.

"...What's really interesting about this software is that it verifies the fact that you are a real person by taking your name and information and comparing it against the voter registration rolls. They take that then upload it so they can confirm that people are who they say they are..."

The responses are broken down by city residents and those from outside the city and other categories. Go to the City of Rhinelander Facebook page to the to see the draft ordinance and from there you can get a link to the on-line survey.

More information is also available at Rhinelander City Hall. After more public feedback, the council will discuss it at upcoming meetings.
