Vilas County Sheriff Joe Fath has accepted an appointment by Governor Scott Walker to represent this region on a Juvenile Corrections Study Committee.
Sheriff Fath said he was asked by the Badger State Sheriffs Association if he was interested and was appointed last month by Governor Walker
“We know that Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake juvenile facility has been scheduled to close and there is a need to come up with alternatives for both juvenile offenders and what the closed facility could or should be used for,” Fath said. “My initial thoughts are that offenders should be close to their home areas where family support could be more easily provided."
Sheriff Fath said the first meeting of the 25 member committee will be July 25 in Madison and that he looks forward to the challenge.
