Teacher Helps People Learn About Life On The Farm

WAOW Television

An Auburndale teacher is using the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to educate people.

Back in March, Mark Cournoyer decided to produce a web series, "Fun with Cheese," profiling Wisconsin's cheese varieties. Since then, it has expanded to include all facets of life on the farm.

"I thought this would be an interesting way, because I'm an ag teacher, and this is one of the things I enjoy educating my students about is the history of cheese and where it came from," Cournoyer said.

Cournoyer's series talks about multiple topics, from new technologies, to basics like breeding. Most of his videos are live streamed on Facebook.

He said the main goal of the series is educating people.

"You don't have to look far to see that agriculture is all around you, and things like today in episode 137, we bred a cow," he said. "That happens at farms all over the country."

Tyler Freund, a guest on the most recent episode, said he's appreciative of what Cournoyer does.

"The passion that Mark has with educating people is just tremendous, it's contagious," he said.

Cournoyer said it's all just an effort to teach people something new and cheer them up during a difficult time.

"Farmers are people with big hearts, and they care about the land, they care about you, they care about the animals," he said. "That's what people need to understand."
