Three Lakes Looking Toward Updated Airport Survey

en.wikipedia.org

The town of Three Lakes is in the initial stages of looking at the town's airport.

The town board Tuesday discussed applying for a grant says town chair Stella Westfall. She says to be eligible for state DOT grants, they have to have a survey to present. The last survey done at the airport was completed in 1977...

"....so this hearing we had, kept the same airport layout plan and just updated the date to 2015 so we would be eligible for grant money to get a survey done and update the airport layout plan. So we're stepping through hoops, basically...."

If the survey grant is approved, the town would be eligible for the state to pay 80 percent of the survey costs. Westfall says further actions will require a public hearing.

At the town board meeting, the Three Lakes board also looked at a long-term  issue from Lone Stone lake where private piers are located on public land. Westfall says they're working with the DNR to see if it's legal to have a  public pier and leasing dock space to the public. That would include people who live in the area but to the public as well. She says the leasing would come up each year. She says it's all preliminary as they have to see how much interest there would be and how much they could legally do.
