Three Lakes Plans For Fire Chief Stipend

B Garrett

Three Lakes plans to pay its fire chief starting next year - at least a small amount.

An outgoing volunteer fire chief went before the town board this week to request that future fire chiefs get a small stipend to cover travel and other incidental costs.  Town Chair Stella Westfall says the budget committee still has to decide how much that stipend will be.

“So the budget and finance committee along with one of the town board liaisons are going to look at this in our next budgeting cycle, and look at other fire departments in this area to see what they’re paying they’re fire chiefs. So we’re looking at basically a stipend, maybe about $3600 a year, something in that ballpark.”

Final budget approval will come in November, and the new stipend would take effect starting in January.
