Unemployment Numbers Continue To Drop In Northwoods

commons.wikimedia.org

The latest unemployment numbers from November show a continuing downward trend in the Northwoods.

State economist Ryan White says preliminary November rates decreased in all of Wisconsin's 72 counties compared to rates one year ago.The latest rates ranged from 2.9 percent in Dane county to 7.8 percent in Menominee county.

White says there was some upward movement in numbers of workers laid off due to seasonal trends...

".....generally speaking, any sort of industry that relies on the summer months does see a decline(in employment) as we move into the winter months and it is something we see consistently throughout this region...."

In the Northwoods, Iron county had the state's third-highest rate at 7.4 percent. One year ago it was one percentage point higher. Vilas is at 6.4 percent, Forest 6.3 percent, Langlade at 5.2 percent, Oneida 4.9 percent, Lincoln at 4.2 percent and Price at 4.1 percent. All those numbers are one to two percent lower than one year ago.
