Vilas, Oneida Counties Discuss Shoreland Lot Sizes

en.wikipedia.org

Governor Walker approved changes in regulating shoreland zoning as part of the budget bill.

Those changes caused an uproar in the lakes-heavy Northwoods as local units of government were forbidden from regulating beyond looser state rules, especially in prohibiting dividing lake lots.

Next week, the Vilas county board will consider adopting a six-month moratorium to allow the county to figure out new rules. In Oneida County Wednesday, the Planning and Development committee decided not to ask that county board the same question says department head Karl Jenrich. He says several towns have restrictions, especially on smaller lakes, allowing larger lot sizes...

"....the thought was to have a moratorium to see whether or not legislation could be made or changed to allow some larger lot sizes on some of these smaller lakes...."

As an example, Jenrich says in the town of Stella, many of the lakes are small and local citizens had asked for larger sizes.
