Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg is reminding residents that, no matter what action is taken on the wearing of face coverings in Madison, the city's own local resolution remains in place.
“I know it’s exhausting. I know people are sick of it, really sick of it,” Rosenberg said. “But just keep at it.”
Late last week the state senate and assembly voted to throw out Governor Evers' emergency order.
That was their first vote related to the pandemic in some 300 days.
It regarded face coverings statewide.
Sixty minutes later, the governor issued a new emergency mask order.
Rosenberg says the political whiplash between both parties in Madison has grown frustrating for local leaders like her.
“I really would love to have a functional state government, a functional federal government,” she said. “I mean, we’re partners in this. So it’s really important that they are working on policies that protect our shared constituents.”
She says she understands the confusion over who has the authority to do what, but says there still needs to be a plan in place to keep residents safe.
“You know we’re in the middle of a pandemic too. This is something that they need to have a plan before they remove these protections for the state and our shared constituents,” she said.
Wausau's resolution encourages residents to wear face coverings at all times when in a public building with a few exceptions, but comes with no enforceable action.
