Wausau Police Department Accreditation In Progress

WAOW Television

The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WLEAG) will be in Wausau for three days to determine if the Wausau Police Department will have their accreditation renewed.

Accreditation in this case are more than 600 requirements that the department has to meet within the process.

Every three years, WLEAG does on-site visits for re-certification, and the Wausau Police Department must provide proof of each requirement being met.

"It proves to our community that we are an agency that believes in doing the right things and being on top of our game," Wausau Police Department Chief Ben Bliven said. "It proves that we're meeting best practice standards within law enforcement."

Another part of the process is public input. If you want to call and give your opinion on why you think the department should or should not be accredited, you can call 715-261-7817. You'll have to call between 2 pm and 4 pm on Wednesday. The number will allow you to speak to WLEAG to provide feedback.
