Wisconsin Conservation Congress Holding Spring Hearing Virtually

PIXABAY.COM

The Wisconsin Conservation Congress wants your input.

“We’re hoping to hear from anybody and everybody that has interest in Wisconsin’s natural resources,” said Kari Lee-Zimmerman, DNR liaison to the WCC.

The Spring Virtual Hearings survey opened Monday night.

“It’s gone very smoothly. There were no problems with the with launch of the survey, we’re steadily increasing in the input, so I think people are sort of taking their time getting to it knowing that they have 72 hours and it’s not necessarily a mad dash since the beginning, but a slow and steady pace.”

There are several rule change and advisory questions that could impact the Northwoods.

Several rule change questions have to do with walleye and bass fishing limits on various lakes in Iron, Vilas, Forest, and Oneida counties.

Many of the WCC advisory questions could lead to statewide changes like restoring local control to counties on lake zoning ordinances, holding a white deer season, and developing a curriculum for firearm safety in schools.

“The question that the Conservation Congress asks are advisory questions. That’s sort of to get a feel for weather or not the congress would ask the department to look further into possible changes in those areas,” said Zimmerman.

You can visit the DNR’s website to vote. You have until 7:00 p.m. Thursday to respond to the survey.
