WPS Foundation Offering Grants Through Rewarding Responders Program

Wisconsin Public Service

The Wisconsin Public Service Foundation is providing funding through its Rewarding Responders Grant program to agencies in northeast and north central Wisconsin.

WPS spokesperson Matt Cullen outlines the program..

"..This year, we are offering $50,000 worth of those grants to agencies that qualify for the grants. Individual agencies can apply for the grants up to $2,000 that helps them purchase equipment or training that improves public safety in their community...."

Last year, Woodruff Fire Department received funding for gas detectors and firefighting helmet lamps. Cullen says other departments have picked up thermal imaging cameras, fire resistant clothing, water rescue equipment and traffic safety equipment for law enforcement officers.

Cullen talks about the agencies that are eligible to apply...

"..Departments that operate within our service area. Fire departments, EMS departments, police departments that provide services to communities within northern eastern and north central Wisconsin are eligible to apply for a grant this year..."

Departments that received grants last year are not eligible this year, but can reapply next year. Cullen says safety is a top priority of WPS, so these grants go hand-in-hand in providing the service.

Applications are now open and will be accepted through June 15.
