The Boulder Junction Volunteer Fire Department’s 30th Annual Chicken Barbecue fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, July 4, has been canceled due to the ongoing global COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic.

Assistant fire chief Eric Johnson said the number one priority of the department is the safety of its members, its citizens and visitors. He said it was a tough decision...

"With the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, the amount of pre-planning that goes into it, with guidance from the Vilas County Health Department regarding large group events, and looking at things like the ongoing meat shortages, pricing of commodities, it just seemed adviseable to cancel the fundraiser...."

The barbecue routinely sells 1,500 dinners annually and is the sole fundraiser sponsored by the Boulder Junction Volunteer Fire Department.

The department plans to resume its 30-year Chicken Barbecue tradition next year on Saturday, July 3, 2021.
