Groundbreaking at LDF Country Market Start Of More Development

Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa

Community leaders gathered Friday morning to break ground on an expanded grocery store in Lac du Flambeau that likely will result  in an expanded business development.

Randy Soulier, Chief Operations Officer for the LDF Business Development Corporation, says a few years ago talk began about upgrading the LDF Country Market. Soulier says the store needed modernization...

"..The refrigeration equipment, some of it dates back to 1972. Recently we had replaced the meat grinder and that was from 1968. Needless to say there needed to be some updating and the community itself was looking for more fresh(food) and more services..."

He says the Business Development Corporation was able to find the funds to bring the remodeling into being. Soulier says the new store will be around 18,000 square feet. He says the LDF Smoke Shop will be headquartered in the new store along with the convenience store and fuel station.

He says more growth is likely in that location..

"That whole corner area is master planned. We're looking at other retail pads as well. It's going to be a nice development for the community...."

The LDF Business Development Corporation was created by the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Indians to generate revenue outside of gaming.
