A Rhinelander man will spend the next eight years in prison.
Dustin LaPuma, 27, was sentenced in federal court Tuesday.
In October, LaPuma pleaded guilty to knowing possessing stolen ammunition.
He was arrested in August of last year during a traffic stop in Rhinelander.
As one of the officers spoke with LaPuma, he admitted to have a gun inside of his backpack.
LaPuma was on probation at the time.
Officers searched the bag and a pistol loaded with two rounds.
LaPuma told the officers he got the gun after a party and later admitted it was take from someone else’s car.
He said someone offered him meth as payment for taking the stolen gun.
At sentencing, the Judge said LaPuma’s criminal history was a factor in the heavy sentence.
Online court records show past convictions of battery, criminal damage to property, and attempted armed robbery.
He was sentence to 100 months in prison.
