The start of a new school year is around the corner and Wisconsin’s DOT State Patrol is gearing up for their annual inspection of Wisconsin’s school buses. State Patrol Lieutenant Karl Mittelstadt  says that nearly 11,000 inspections are done to ensure buses have working equipment such as brakes, steering, lights and electrical systems.

“School buses are known to be one of the safest modes of transportation on our roadways. So when you’re hauling school children, some of the capacity of these school buses can be up to 85, so we want to stress the importance to these carriers that these children need to be riding on a very safe vehicle.”

Mittelstadt says the public also needs to use extreme caution as the school year approaches to guarantee a safe roadway for all passengers.
