A Prentice woman has been charged with stealing mail.

Federal prosecutors say 47 year old Belinda J. Chizek is charged with taking a letter containing U.S. currency from a mail route in Phillips. Prosecutors say at the time of the alleged offense, Chizek was a contract delivery service employee of the U.S. Postal Service.

A federal grand jury in Madison returned the indictment. If convicted, Chizek faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison. The charge against her resulted from an investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
