Rhinelander Elementary Schools Begin Adding Classrooms

WXPR

School leaders and construction team members broke ground at three Rhinelander schools Wednesday with the goal of adding more classroom space.

Ceremonies were held at Crescent, Pelican and Central elementary schools.

Superintendent Kelli Jacobi says there will be two additional classrooms at each school...

"...to help with our space issues at the elementaries. It will definitely help with our reconfiguration efforts to get all of our buildings into a 4K-5th grade..."

Kelli Jacobi says the construction has been in the works for several years...

"..Our taxpayers support us a lot and really work hard to support this so we couoldn't make this an additional financial burden for them. So we looked at savings. There are other things we could have been doing with money all along but we really just waited until we could do a bigger project like this..."

The overall cost for the three schools is just under $2 million. Kelli Jacobi says they've saved money for the project, one of the main cost savings was in district health insurance cost savings. She says she appreciates the great support from taxpayers over the years. Jacobi says if all goes as planned the additions will be open for students in the fall.
