Registration Opens for School of the Arts

Summer might feel far away, but organizers of School of the Arts Rhinelander are already looking ahead to this July's programming.

The 51st year of the program will offer five days of art workshops at a Rhinelander middle school.

Director Lynn Tarnoff says registration is open for more than 50 courses.

“And we have five different tracks for people to take. We have scheduling that is weekend-only, and scheduling that can be Saturday through Wednesday.”

Last year was the first to offer a weekend option for courses, and Tarnoff says it brought in many new participants.  People can also register for single-day courses.

Expanded visual arts offerings include Norwegian rosemaling or flower painting, and a unique photography class.

“We’re actually having a special photography class that is how to take the best pictures with the camera that you’ve got in your pocket, focusing on smartphones! So there’s still lots to learn about great photography on a smart phone.”

Tarnoff says organizers have also added new courses in writing, culinary arts and nutrition, and mind-body-spirit.

The dates for 2014 School of the Arts are July 19-23.
