Project North begins later today. A mainstay of the three-day music, arts and sustainability event will be the food. Jessica Lapachin is the event's lead for the food committee and helped out with the sustainability committee. Lapachin says the goal is to limit the amount of waste...

"...The zero-waste effort is sweeping across the whole world. People are trying to ban single-use plastic. It has been a big goal of Project North. We've achieved that by asking all our vendors to use compostable products made from corn starch or plant-based materials...."

Lapachin says they found a company in Wausau that will take the food waste and turn it into compost. She says food vendors will not be selling plastic bottled water. She says there will be water available and asks you bring your own device to drink from while the beer will be in refillable containers. The beer, including Rhinelander's own and from Eagle River, will all be from Wisconsin.

Lapachin says there will be foods of all types, with seven different vendors. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
