Mother Nature isn't helping as Wisconsin Public Service and other crews are working around the clock to restore power. WPS spokesperson Matt Cullen says the outages are extensive....
"...we've been able to restore service to more than 97,000 customers since the storms began at noon on Sunday. Our crews are continuing to work as they face extensive damage that includes numerous broken power poles several downed trees and downed wires...."
Intense storms Sunday knocked out power in a broad path of northern and central Wisconsin. Monday night a second round hammered central and eastern Wisconsin.
Cullen outlines where the hardest hit areas remain...
"...we are seeing the areas of Stevens Point, Marinette-Menominee, Wabeno, Wausaukee, Minocqua, Rhinelander. Those were our hardest hit areas most impacted by the storms that passed through the area right now..."
WPS strongly emphasizes that people need to stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines, and should treat any downed line as energized. Anyone who comes across a downed power line or damaged electrical equipment should report it to WPS and a local law enforcement agency immediately.
