There are just about no aspects of life that have not been impacted the COVID-19 pandemic.
For many farmers it’s meant drops in price for product they sell and a disruption in the supply chain.
“Everybody remembers the news footage of milk being dumped in the spring or produce being plowed under because there was no market for it,” said USDA’s Wisconsin Farm Service Agency Executive Director Sandy Chalmers.
She says aid farmers have already gotten for pandemic relief has made a huge difference.
“A number of them have said to me, if it weren’t for this assistance I would be out of farming,” said Chalmers.
The deadline for the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program 2 is this Friday. Chalmers said it is a hard deadline.
Most farmers, ranchers and producers are eligible for it, this includes people who produce maple syrup or dairy farmers.
Chalmers encourages people to apply.
“It’s there to help you and what we’re seeing is that it is having a positive impact on our ag’s sector and it’s keeping farms viable and well into the future and really helping farm families across the state,” said Chalmers.
You can apply through your local FSA office or online.
