DNR says Fall Colors are Starting

commons.wikimedia.org

Wisconsin's fall color show is just beginning in northern Wisconsin. DNR spokesperson Jennifer Sereno says the changing colors highlight the state’s diverse forest. She says light winds and little rainfall has encouraged peak colors to form.

“…we’re especially looking for birch, basswood and red maple in spots across northern Wisconsin. With Wisconsin state forests, parks and natural areas so conveniently accessible across the state, it’s possible to follow the progression of colors from hundreds of locations.”

Sereno says colors reach their peaks in northern Wisconsin in late September, early-to-mid October in central areas and late October in the south. She says fall colors are a big deal in Wisconsin, as many people plan their weekends around the nature show.
