Some kids in Three Lakes get a special ride to school Friday  morning, thanks to the Three Lakes Fire Department.

The 8th annual "Ride To School Program" is sponsored by the department as part of a fire prevention program. Department Fire Prevention Coordinator Andy Beach says the idea is to engage young people in fire prevention...

"...What we do is go out to the student's homes, we pick them up in the fire truck and take them to school in the fire truck. The idea is to get the students engaged...learning about fire prevention. We have a program that runs 4k through fifth(grade). It teaches them all about fire prevention, and it teaches them to be safe in their home, look for hazards and what to do in case of a fire...."

The "Ride To School" is a coloring contest. Beach says six students were winners and are getting taken to school on a fire truck. The students will also have breakfast at Cindy's Cafe on the way....

"...The kids who participate in the Ride To School Program, we've had some people win multiple times throughout their years in the fire prevention program. We've even had siblings. This year is the first time we'll have three siblings riding in the same truck to school. It's a very creative family and they're very engaged in the fire prevention program..."

BMO Harris Bank in Three Lakes also will be giving the winners a gift card.
