Wisconsin's Green Fire Gets Evjue Foundation Grant

Wisconsin's Green Fire

An organization formed in 2017 to promote science in Wisconsin's environmental policy decisions has picked up a major grant.

The Evjue Foundation awarded Wisconsin's Green Fire $25,000. Wisconsin Green Fire has about 400 members, many retired DNR and state employees and university educators. Their goal is to restore Wisconsin's conservation legacy.

Wisconsin Green Fire President is Terry Daulton of Mercer who describes Green Fire..

"...As a volunteer group, what we really need are some support services to get our work products out, things like research papers on impacts of research papers on different policy proposals, educational pieces to get the public to understand some of the science behind decision making. We're hoping to beef up the ability of our work groups to put together information for the public..."

Among the policy areas the group has pursued is gray wolf management, Chronic Wasting Disease and the state deer herd, ruffed grouse management, wetlands and management proposals for state forests .

The Evjue Foundation is the charitable arm of The Capital Times media outlet in Madison. Bill Evjue started the Madison Capital Times in 1917 in opposition to World War I, based on the ideals of Robert “Fighting Bob” LaFollette. He became one of the state’s best known and most powerful newspaper editors. He also was a radio broadcaster.
