This week begins an effort by the Rhinelander High School's FBLA/DECA groups to collect used blue jeans to give to others less fortunate in the community. Called "Jeans For Teens" the project collects the clothing between now and December 22.

Elliot Fehlen is a Senior at Rhinelander High School. He says it started as a club competition that caught on in the community.

"...that started a couple of years back, and every year since then, since it was so successful, we've grown from doing 250 to 450 jeans last year that we collected and handed back to the community.... "

Mason Hageny says student committees publicize the need among the students and collect the clothing...

"....everybody in the community gets to know about this so they can donate jeans if they want. There is another committee, the collection committee, collects all the jeans when we're done with this After that we count them all, donate them to different shelters like Frederick Place or Family Resource Connection Center...."

There will be boxes for collection at Rhinelander High School, James Williams Middle School, Central, Crescent, and Pelican elementary schools, Coffee Beans Etc., and Bath & Body Creations & Coffee Haus in downtown Rhinelander.

On January 6, at the boys basketball game if you make a donation of jeans to Jeans for Teens you will get in free to the game.
