It's primary election day, where the political parties sort out their candidates for the decisive November election.

There's not many contested races on Northwoods ballots. One race is a primary for the Vilas County Register of Deeds office. Two Republicans are running. Brittany Schelk, who is listed as Real Estate and Vital Records Clerk within the office is being challenged by Sherrie Bierman. The winner of today's election is likely the winner of the position, as there is no Democrat on the ballot.

In the 35th District State Assembly race, two Republicans are challenging for the nod Calvin Callahan and Don Nelson. The winner will face Democrat Tyler Ruprecht in November.

In Florence county, the winner of the Republican primary will likely be District Attorney. There's no Democrat in the race. The two Republicans are incumbent Doug Drexler and challenger Gregory Siebold.

In the 85th Assembly race from Wausau south, Democrats Jeff Johnson and Aaron LaFave are running, with the winner to face incumbent Pat Snyder.

Oneida County Clerk Tracy Hartman says she isn't sure what the turnout will be...

"We're seeing a high turnout for absentee applications for voters receiving absentee ballots. We're a little unsure as to what to expect tomorrow. If people are still going to turn out in person and see a really large turnout, or if a lot of people voted absentee and we'll have a quiet day. We're a little unsure what to expect..."

Hartman says in Oneida County, 6,600 absentee ballots have been issued, many more than the comparable election in 2016.
