Area schools are recognizing staff for their dedication to the health and well-being of kids. Rhinelander Area School District is celebrating National School Lunch week. Food Service Director Pat Karaba says the national campaign celebrates the importance of food programs and their ability to give kids meals they otherwise might not get.

“…These might be the only meals that kids have time for, families are so busy now and financially strapped, that these are very crucial meals to have and it’s a great opportunity for a school to have to feed the children.”

Karaba says more than 60 percent of kids in the Rhinelander Area School District qualify for the reduced lunch program. She says she expects an increase in coming months as families get laid off from their summer jobs.
