Church Mutual Outshines Goal, Donates $175,000 To Merrill Area United Way

Church Mutual

Church Mutual Insurance Company and its employees donated more than $175,000 to the Merrill Area United Way this week.

That far exceeded the fundraising goal set by the Merrill-based company, and beat last year’s total by more than $20,000.

Since 2000, Church Mutual has contributed more than $1.5 million to the Merrill Area United Way.

The company is the nation’s largest insurer of religious organizations.

“Our mission with our policyholders is also to help them protect their missions, and we want to make sure that we’re doing it locally, walking the talk, so that it’s not just something that we say, but something that we’re also doing,” said United Way Campaign Chair Leah Burbach.

Again this year, Church Mutual matched its employees’ contributions dollar-for-dollar.

The company donates to United Way because that group benefits charities throughout the area.

“Our employees do an incredible job supporting United Way, then, throughout the year, other organizations, too, like Relay for Life and Special Olympics, but United Way is where we really, really shine,” Burbach said.

More than 640 employees participated in the Church Mutual fundraising effort this year
