County Administrator On Langlade County Bd. Agenda Thursday

Langlade Co.

The Langlade County Board is meeting Thursday evening to discuss whether to add a county administrator position. The position would oversee all departments along with a variety of other duties.

The supervisors began discussing adding the position late last year. Supervisors got an update in February.  The board has the authority to terminate the person at their judgement. In Wisconsin you must have one of three forms of county administrative government.

The Wisconsin Counties Association says 28 of the 72 counties have administrators, 11 with county executives and the remainder designate someone in county government to be whats called a coordinator. While the document before the Langlade board Thursday spells out the duties, left off are some areas, such as pay.

The Wisconsin Counties Association reports  among some other counties with administrators, Price county pays $75,000 and Sawyer county $110,000. A WCA spokesperson, Jon Hochkammer, says those two counties went to an administrator after downsizing their boards.

Pay for administrators in other counties include $115,000 in Marinette, $113,000 in Bayfield county and $75,000 in Ashland county among others.

The Langlade County meeting is set for Thursday, June 6, at 6:00 p.m. at the county board room of the Safety Building on Clermont Street in Antigo.
