With the reconstruction of Stevens Street on Rhinelander's north side going smoothly, the Rhinelander Common Council has approved fixing a portion of a another busy city street.
Mark Barden of the city's engineering firm said the Stevens Street project has a budget surplus and recommended shifting $190,000 to fix a heavily used portion of Lincoln Street that has seen better days. Thousands of cars drive the street daily.
Barden says they would like to fix the street from Oneida Street by the Holiday station out to Evergreen Street which had been paved earlier. Barden says they can put together a fix to the surface that won't be long-term, but will fix a street that needs help.
Barden says Musson Brothers can shift from Stevens Street to this project quickly and get it done..
"With the milling, with the traffic control, they're proposing to get it done in two days. If the council were to say go ahead, they would mill thing one day into the night and the next day they would pave it..."
The council approved the change order, shifting funds and crew to fix Lincoln Street. Barden says the shift will not shortchange the Stevens Street project which is well along and is likely to be finished by July 4.
Barden says the Lincoln Street project could be done by mid-July.
The council also extended the contract of consulting administrator Zach Vruwink until July 27 and the city will negotiate a longer contract through the end of the year.
