A man wanted in Michigan was allegedly the driver of a vehicle involved in a high-speed chase that ended in his injury.

Rhinelander Police identified the suspect as 47 year old Kevin A. Block, no address given.

Rhinelander Police report WalMart security in Rhinelander said they saw a suspect allegedly shoplift an item then leave the parking lot. A city squad car noticed the vehicle at the Timber Drive and Highway 17 bypass intersection.

The vehicle did not stop and a pursuit began about 7:45 p.m. Speeds reached 120 miles per hour.

In Pine Lake, an Oneida County deputy joined the chase on Highway 17 north, and in Vilas county, a county deputy put a squad car in one lane and put stop sticks in the other.

The suspect vehicle veered off the road in an attempt to miss the stop sticks, went out of control and struck some trees.

Block was transported to Ascension Hospital in Eagle River, then later airlifted to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau where he is being guarded by law enforcement.

It was later learned that Block has a nationwide extraditable warrant from the State of Michigan.

Several other agencies were involved and charges are being referred to the Oneida County District Attorney's office.
