Bill Miller was a driving force behind the formation in 2009 of Northwoods Alliance For Temporary Housing, or NATH.
In 2011, NATH opened Frederick Place, its homeless shelter in Rhinelander. A key fundraiser for NATH-Frederick Place happens soon at a golf scramble named for Miller. That fundraiser comes at a time of need for them.
Executive Director Tammy Modic says they've lost ground on fundraising this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic..
"We are starting our first real fundraiser, I guess, this year with everything going on with COVID-19 and our Bill Miller Memorial Golf Scramble will be on Sunday, July 19... "
Modic says they will be utilizing procedures to help keep people safe. She says in the past, after golfing, participants would gather for a large meal. This time around, food will be available on the course. Modic says it's a nine-hole four-person scramble. They have prizes and sponsorships available....
"This is the 10th year for this golf scramble so we really wanted to make sure that this event still happened even though it looks a little different..."
The event is set for the Northwood Golf Club.
