Nominating Petitions Filed In Merrill Recall Race

In Merrill, candidates in four of the five targeted city council districts turned their petitions in at Tuesday's deadline, according to city clerk Bill Heideman.

In District 1 incumbent Paul Russell will face Becky Meyer. District 5 voters will choose between John Van Lieshout and Shannon Collins. Rob Norton (I) and Eric Dayton vie for the District 7 seat. In District 8 the ballot will feature challenger Steve Sabatke and Tim Meehean. Heideman says the ballot in District 6 will only have the name of Dave Sukow on it, but residents will still be allowed to write in a candidate.

Since no districts have more than three candidates, there will only be one recall election day on July 16th. The August date would only have come into play if the first election ended up becoming a primary with no candidates receiving more than 50 percent of the vote. Heideman will now verify the signatures on the petitions before certifying the rest of the ballots.
