RASTA Planning New Silent Sport Trail At Washburn Lake

RASTA

Rhinelander Area Silent Trails Association(RASTA) is building a 2.7 mile single track, hiking, and snowshoe trail to the north of existing trails at the Washburn Silent Sports Trails complex west of Rhinelander.

A spokesperson says they need some funding so they can finish up the new trail this year. RASTA's Scott Watson said they're calling the section the "North Trail", in an area that has a lot of natural beauty and no trail...

"We're just beyond the planning stage now. We're actually committed to beginning to build it and we're hiring a professional trail builder to come in and build it. It's scheduled to begin in mid-to-late August and get finished up this year..."

Watson says they have enough money to start the project, but need more donations to finish it up. Watson says to build the trail so it can take use without damaging the trail, they're getting some special equipment...

"We build it in a way that's called sustainable. That takes a fair amount of skill. They're brining in a small excavator that specializes in this type of work and it's expensive. It's estimated total cost is $32,000."

Watson says they're about two-thirds of the way to the fundraising goal. He says two persons have provided matching funds to the funds that are donated from supporters.

RASTA was created in 2006 to raise funds and construct the Perch Lake Shelter in the Washburn Lake Silent Sports Trail Area in the Oneida County Forest.

More information is on their website and Facebook page.
