Saturday Soup Walk to Support Feed Our Rural Kids

Feed Our Rural Kids

It costs $3.55 to feed a child one meal in Vilas County. That’s 28-percent more than the average cost of the same meals average cost in Wisconsin as a whole according to Feeding America.

Feed Our Rural Kids or FORK is an organization that supports families in the Northland Pines School District.

Kathy Martin is the owner of Hillbilly Hollow. She’s holding a Soup Walk Fundraiser to help raise money for FORK.

“It does feed the kids in the Northland Pines School District. They send home the weekend backpacks. They make sure the kids have proper nutrition. It’s important for us to give back to the community and helping feed kids is a good thing,” said Martin.

Hillbilly Hollow will be selling homemade soup Saturday, October 3 from noon to 4:00 p.m. 10 percent of all proceeds will go to FORK.

“We are going to set up 16 kinds of homemade soups and there will be samples so you can come in and just pick and choose. We sell them in 16 and 32 oz. containers,” said Martin.

Hillbilly Hollow is located on East Wall Street in Eagle River.

Katie Thoresen is WXPR's News Director/Vice President.
