MINOCQUA -- A Lakeland Union High School student has been referred to juvenile authorities in Vilas County after he allegedly left a threatening message on a bathroom wall, according to a joint press release by the Minocqua Police Department and the high school.
“In consultation with the Minocqua Police Department, it was determined that the threat was not credible,” said District Administrator Rob Way in the press release.
School will be in session as usual today, Wednesday.
Another student discovered the threatening graffiti in the men’s restroom located in the Tech Ed hallway. A review of tapes from security cameras in the hallway helped identify the suspect, said Police Chief David Jaeger. The police chief said the male is a minor and as such no further information about him will be released. Nor will he reveal what the message said.
“We would like to thank LUHS school faculty and staff for the hard work and information sharing, which contributed to the conclusion of this investigation,” the release said. “Again, it is important for everyone to understand we take these threats seriously, and on behalf of the safety of our students and staff we will stand on the side of caution.
Due to this, there will be an increased law enforcement presence at school to ensure the safety of the students, faculty and staff on campus.”
