Iron Mountain VA Gets Top Awards For Service

The Veterans Administration has recognized the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center for producing positive healthcare experiences.

The Iron Mountain-based facility received the Best Experience Award for small, low complexity facilities at a recent gathering. The facility has a veterans clinic in Rhinelander.

Spokesperson Brad Nelson...

"...Our medical center is one of the smallest medical centers in the nation, yet we were ranked second in the nation for patient satisfaction at the end of 2018. We have consistently ranked as one of 8 VA hospitals in the top 10 percent of all VA hospitals in terms of patient satisfaction since 2012. We were also ranked first in terms of employee satisfaction and best place to work in the Veterans health administration based on the VA's 2018 all employees survey..."

The Center was one of twelve VA Centers selected as finalists for the award.

Medical Center Director Jim Rice said they've taken many actions that led to the award. These include conducting 32 veteran town halls last year in 30 different locations throughout the UP and northern Wisconsin, using email surveys for immediate feedback and service recovery, and other programs.

Rice says the medical center also focuses on engaging the employees through monthly employee focus groups, leadership training and mentoring, special training for employees, employee initiated improvement projects, and recognizing achievements.
