Jobless Rate Continues To Fall, But Northwoods Has Higher Levels

Northwoods counties saw low unemployment rates in July, though three of the state's five highest rates were here.

Preliminary July numbers found unemployment rates declined or stayed the same since last year in 69 of the state's 72 counties.

State labor economist Mitchell Rupp in Wausau details the area numbers...

"...For Forest county there's a rate of 4.9 percent, Langlade 4.4, Lincoln, 3.3, Oneida 2.9, and Vilas 3.2...."

Iron county has the state's second highest rate at 5.2 percent. Menominee county has the highest rate at 7.7 percent. Forest has the third highest rate, and Langlade is the fifth highest..Price county's current rate is at 3.6 percent. Price's rate is the same as July, 2017, but the rest of the counties have slightly lower numbers than a year ago.

Rupp says the statewide overall average is 3.1 percent, and the naitonal average is 4.1 percent.

Wisconsin added 21,000 manufacturing jobs since one year ago.
