Mathein Says He Will Reveal Intentions This Week

WXPR

Former Oneida county  and Forest county medical examiner Larry Mathein said Tuesday in an email he will likely have more to say on a possible write-in campaign for sheriff later this week. This follows his resignation from the medical examiner's post last week.

WJFW TV reported last week charges are being considered in Vilas county after Mathein allegedly improperly signed off on a death from an incident that started in Vilas county in June. The person became sick at St. Germain, later died in Wausau.

WJFW reported the medical examiner there mistakenly thought St. Germain was in Oneida county and asked Mathein to sign off, which he allegedly did. If that occured, it is a violation of state law.

WJFW said charges against Mathein might happen in Vilas county.

Oneida County Corporation Counsel Brian Desmond said in an email that the position is being posted and a deputy medical examiner will be handling the duties. Oneida county shares a medical examiner with Forest county.
