The Third Annual Women's March of the Northwoods takes place the same day as the Women's March is scheduled in Washington D.C.

One of the organizers for the Northwoods march, Beth Tornes says the march will happen in Minocqua on Saturday, January 19 from 11:00 a.m. to noon. The marchers will meet at the municipal parking lot and participants will loop around downtown Minocqua.

Tornes talks about how the march got going..

"...It was right after the inauguaration of President Trump. There are a lot of concerns by women and others about women's rights and human rights and how those issues might be affected by this new administration. I think we have seen, in the treatment of immigrants at the border, I think we've seen some issues of human rights and the right of immigrants to be treated like human beings..."

Tornes says they've had good attendance at previous marches...

"...In our first march we had, I believe, 301 participants. Last year we had 200. It was freezing rain, and the weather was a bit discouraging, but we had the march despite bad weather. We ask that people dress warmly, to bring raincoats or umbrellas if it's raining. We'll have the march regardless of the weather...."

According to unofficial estimates, about 300,000 marchers turned out last year in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, and 200,000 in New York City. The first march found an estimated 500,000 marchers in Washington, D.C.
