Felzkowski Defeats Vocke, Wins Senate Seat

Republican State Rep. Mary Felzkowski has been elected to the Wisconsin State Senate on the 12th district.

Felzkowski, of Tomahawk, defeated Democrat Ed Vocke, of Mincoqua.

The district covers parts of 11 counties in northern and northeastern Wisconsin.

It had been held by Republican Tom Tiffany, who resigned after being elected to Congress.

Felzkowski has served in the State Assembly since 2013.

In an interview right after the race was called, Felzkowski told WXPR her focus will be reducing taxes, keeping up funding for schools, and work on better access to healthcare.

“It’s going to be a tight budget coming up. With businesses being shutdown, revenue is going to be down, and I want to make sure the northern and the rural areas don’t play second fiddle to Madison and Milwaukee," said Felzkowski. "I want to make sure we have the same opportunities up here and that we get our share of funding in the Northwoods.”

She also thanked her opponenet Ed Vocke for running a clean campaign.
