DRI Looking For Businesses In Incubator, Basket Sponsors

en.wikipedia.org

Vilas county has three business incubators that have shown success. Rhinelander's first attempt is just getting off the ground.

When Downtown Rhinelander, Incorporated moved to a building it owned on West Davenport Street, the extra space was turned over to begin an incubator.

DRI Executive Director Maggie Steffen says they have a cross between different types of incubators...

".....we have one retail space, it has great windows, and then we have office space upstairs. You get it at a reduced rate. You don't pay for your utilities and we offer some help..."

...that help includes information on websites and related business needs. She says the businesses sign on for one or two years before leaving to other office space.

And DRI  is hoping people come forward to adopt a flower basket that decorates downtown streets.

Steffen says the public can make a direct impact on keeping the downtown attractive...

"....the $100 covers the plants and the dirt and the fertilizer. We get a truck donated by Rhinelander GM. We have to pay for insurance and gas. We even have to pay for some waterers as we don't have enough volunteers to do the watering....."

The baskets are hung from the Davenport Street Bridge light posts, and posts around several downtown streets.

More information is available at DowntownRhinelander, Inc.
