CANtastic Is A Go: RAFP Director

RAFP

One of the priority events to bring food to the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry is a go.

Thursday, Pantry Executive Director Guy Hansen talked about CANtastic...

"We do have five teams, so CANtastic is a go. We were a little bit apprehensive, but I just found out we're going to have a team, a CANtastic competition. That's on Feb. 16 at Rouman Cinema. So we'll have the build day where the teams get together that Saturday morning at Rouman Cinema where the teams build their structures. They will be on display for two weeks. They will be judged and hand out some trophies. At the end of the whole thing the food goes to the food pantry..."

Volunteer teams build a structure out of cans of food and boxes based on a theme. The theme this year is 'Hunger Is Not A Game'. The teams buy the food and arrange it in a design to look like some aspect of the theme. Hansen says it could be a board game, sports game, any number of possibilities. When the competition is over, the food is donated to the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry. Hansen says there's more information on paricipating at the food pantry website, rhinelanderareafoodpantry.org or stop by the food pantry on Coon Street in the morning.

While the official judging day is February 16, the displays will be at Rouman(roman) Cinema in Rhinelander until March 2. In that time is public voting with donated cans or box food equaling one vote. There will be an award celebration on March 2.
