October is Energy Efficiency Month and you can pick up free items to save energy in your home.

Focus on Energy is Wisconsin utilities' statewide energy efficiency and renewable resource program funded by the energy providers and participating municipal and electric cooperative utilities. Focus on Energy works with eligible Wisconsin residents and businesses to install cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

Spokesperson John Beard says during October, utility customers can pick up energy efficiency packs to cut down energy use...

"...There are simple energy efficiency packs, we call them see packs. They're a great no-cost way to introduce people to energy efficiency. They're six packs you can choose from. If you're a customer of one of the 170 utilities that are involved in the Focus on Energy program, pretty much everyone in the state..."

Beard says you're eligible if you haven't had one of the 'see packs' delivered to your home in the past three years. He says there are a number of different items you can get free...

"We have a light bulb pack, a floodlight pack, there's a high-efficiency shower head pack, hand held and a mounted one. Advanced power strips and insulation tape, but all of them have some variety of light bulbs in them and that's important. Many people have switched over to LED's in the last five years and the savings are really tremendous...."

Beard says if you replace ten traditional light bulbs with LED's, you can save more than $300 a year. He says the advanced power strip pack of saves energy in homes with many electronic devices plugged in. At the Focus on Energy website  you can put in 'free energy saver packs' in the search bar and it will take you to the place where you can order them.
