Rhinelander Moving Forward On Former Lindey Property

WXPR news

The former Lindey Cleaners in Rhinelander could eventually be leveled and more parking put in it's place.

That outcome started in motion this week when a Rhinelander city committee approved the money to hire consultants to look at what needs to be done to clean up the long-time dry cleaning company property. City Administrator Blaine Oborn says there could be more than one environmental problem at the site...

"...we've been able to have access to the building and asbestos is a lot more problematic than they expected, so (Oborn was authorized) to go ahead and contract with other companies...Sand Creek doesn't do that anymore...and do an asbestos assessment there so we can get an idea of the costs we're looking at..."

Oborn says after a full assessment is done they will know how much money they will ask for via a grant to get the work done.

Oborn says the property on South Stevens Street is likely to become available during 2014. Should the grant money come through, that property would likely be leveled for more downtown parking.
