Sen. Johnson Heading To Ukraine This Weekend

Republican Ron Johnson has joined fellow U.S. Senator Democrat Tammy Baldwin in calling for more forest management in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

In a conference call with reporters Thursday,  Johnson says the impacts of below-limit cutting is affecting the northern economy...

"....every report I get across the board is we're pretty much wasting timber resources and increasing our chance for what could be devastating forest fires...I would be 100 percent supportive of a far better managed federal forest in the northern part of Wisconsin..."

This weekend Johnson will  make a bipartisan trip with  six other Senators to Ukraine to assess the situation. He says he's encouraged protesters in Ukraine were calling for freedom...

"....I'm certainly hoping to confirm what I'm hearing as we've spoken to their new Prime Minister and other people from Ukraine...."

Johnson interprets President Obama's recent actions requesting delays in some portions of the Affordable Care Act as saying even Obama knows the law has severe problems...

"....what President Obama is doing is unilaterally engaging in not only one-year delays, but multiple year delays...he's coming to realize what a disaster his healthcare law is. he's not going to say it publically but his actions prove that he understands how this law is not working..."

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says there will be no delay to penalties for persons who don't sign up for insurance by the end of the month.  Sebelius reported Tuesday that 4.2 million people had selected health plans through the federal and state exchanges from October through February, but did not comment about reaching a goal of 7 million by the end of March.
